Wow...hindsight really is 20/20
I wish that I had known about all of this (especially the eventual selling price) when I killed off my first W/Mo character so that I could play on my own account. I certainly would not have sold mine to a merchant. All i can recall about the sword is that I was very impressed to finally be able to find a sword that added energy to (what I thought at the time) a seriously biased weapon selection against the whole 'sword wielder warrior' specialty.

It's actually +2 energy, not +5 energy when compared to a staff.
With HoD Sword you get +5 energy, +20% enchant mod
Foci provides +12 energy, 20/20 bonus
A collector staff is +5 energy mod, +20% mod
+10 energy, 20/20 bonus
Since +5 energy mods are only 10-30k, the question becomes, is the +2 energy really worth the 370k+?

So this sword is mainly for farmers, and 20 enchant may not seem alot to some of you.. but trust me, when it comes down to it.. its worth it.
my suggestion to you all, get it now b4 it goes up more.. and it will.

Obviously you don't. Why not use a regular sword or a Firey flame on a farmer?

Walk from Serenity Temple straight down past the Stormkin. Continue along the path straight until you see the collector. If that's not good enough, I might post a map later.

The collector also only is in the zone if your country has favor, its wierd, but true.

Axe is lying to the extreme. The collector was very much around on the American server today when I got a few axes; Europe had favor at the time. Sadly, I bet Anet will remove this collector in the near future.

Well I have visited the zone several times, he was only there when we had favor, Maybe you zoned and lost favor after you zoned. But I am telling you from my experience he is there only when you have favor.
If you are having trouble finding that collector, try again when you have favor. Seriously Im not lying, I doubt it was just coincidence the many occasions I have visited this collector. If I am mistaken, I am sorry, but Im just trying to be helpful.

There have been several times i've tried to visit him, while having favor from the start of the trip to the end, and he's not there, so favor can't be the only factor in his being there or not.

Consider past history...
The main reason why you wanted the +5 energy is simple...
PROTECTIVE BOND!!
Back in the day, when you could cast protective bond at 17 protection you needed those 5 energy points to help you maintain the protective bond. As a solo monk you usually cast balts aura(25e), shield of judgement(15e), and healing breeze(10e), which totals 50 energy, so the hod sword was required in that build to help ensure that the protective bond didnt drop.
Ever since that nerf, everyone uses protective spirit, which does not drain energy every time it reduces damage, hence the lessened need to carry the hod sword.
These days it's more of a imonk status symbol that an actual "required" utility item.
My 2 cents.

^ LOL, ya I originally had 3 at the time of the nerf, I was tempted to sell them off for quick cash thinking I could always buy one later for 100k at most. However I knew that statisticlly they HoD sword had an advantage, so I customized the one for my monk to prevent me from selling it. Today I only have 1 left....the customized one. So the moral is customizing saved my monk his HoD sword, and i'm happy to have atleast one HoD sword.
As for anyone who didnt get one before the nerf, I dont think the extra energy makes that much of a difference. I sometimes think using the sword may actually put me at a disadvantage, for example most people will be using green wands with 10/10 or 20/20 on them. So if anyone is seriously thinking about buying an HoD sword I would take the skill recharge/cast into consideration.

Actually I use it on my Mes all the time.....beside its obvious advantages...
I really appreciate that when I attack (this is mainly in pvp), no matter what keyboard key I hit, it does not give away my position with a wand cast.....just helps with that self control.
I wouldn't part with it for 900k.
But then again, I use things for their use, not as trade items..... money has no meaning in this particular game for me.

Ding Ding Ding... We have a winner.
Face it, with enough things beating on you energy is not an issue. When there aren't enough things beating on you Blessed Signet more than makes up for the energy you're spending.
Get an %18-%20 enchant mod for a sword or axe and you are set. The flamespitter is nice, but ultimately even that is unnecessary.

IMHO, a good enchant mod (which you can get on any weapon) is more important than the extra energy of the Nolani wand once you've figured out how to properly solo an area. It just makes farming sooo much faster and efficient.
When you're learning to solo a new spot, however, I think the HOD sword, which can combine both an enchant mod and extra energy, can give you the extra cushion needed to learn to solo an area. And that can be very helpful when you're learning.
It's also nice to have the option down the road of using the HOD sword in a new build. You never know what new combinations will be thought of next.
